Homework & Key Concepts
1
Potty training is part of our basic training and is also the biggest parent's contribution. Prepare to be educated and be patient.
2
Age — Remember your dog's age and act appropriately. Would you expect a 13-year-old teenager to know how to drive a Corvette? NO. So don't expect a puppy to be potty trained overnight. The first year of a dog's life is equivalent to 12 human years — every month equals one year. A 6-month-old dog is like a 6-year-old child. They should be potty trained around 6 months old.
3
Excessive barking — Barking is done to warn others (people, dogs, cars, loud noises) of danger. Often our dogs are just trying to protect their turf — to explain to the world that they are the boss of the home. To fix this issue, make firm corrections with a loud "NO". You need to teach the dog you're alpha and there is no need to protect the turf or home.
